What Are the Differences Between a Turning Center and a Lathe?

For many of the first-time CNC users, the CNC turn mill center may not be the first machine they think of when thinking about turning or milling. While the two are often associated with one another, this is certainly not the case. In fact, the differences between turning machines and lathes in general are very vast for the most part. The CNC turn mill center is a very simple two-axis (Z and X-axis) computer-driven machine which generally only have one spindle and are usually powered by a standard electrical cord.

On the other hand, CNC turning machines are much more complex in nature and can have four or more moving parts working together. Most importantly, they have a control unit which can program the machine’s settings in order to make the right amount of force and turn.
